Administrative files of the Second Infantry Regiment, 1870-1917.

In 1888, the militia was composed of three infantry regiments; the First Infantry Regiment headquartered in Mobile, the Second Infantry Regiment headquartered in Montgomery, and the Third Infantry Regiment headquartered in Selma (Adjutant General's Annual Report, 1888). In 1917 Aug. the members of the Second Infantry were transferred to the Fourth Alabama Infantry which then became the 167th U.S. Infantry. This series consists of the records sent to the Adjutant General's Office by the Second Infantry. The records consist of financial records, muster rolls, service record cards, discharge information, and resignations. Information in the records includes composition of recruits, military regulations, regiment operations, and duty assignments.
